Social Networking Stats and Facts Worth Sharing

We know how much you all rely on social media as an outlet for marketing and promoting your business. So, this week we are sharing a really informative blog post from web author and blogger, Tom Pick, entitled  “49 Noteworthy Social Networking Stats and Facts.” This article  is bursting at the seams with unexpected statistics that can help you maximize your social strategy.
Pick’s website, Webbiquity is filled with a host of great information and advice for WPO or “web presence optimization” a term Pick defines as maximizing your organization’s online presence and success.

“49 Noteworthy Social Networking Stats and Facts”

Though new social networks continue to be launched (e.g. SnapChat, Blab) and some disappear (anyone remember Pownce or Friendster?), the “big three” among both consumers and marketers continue to thrive and dominate.
But there are no guarantees that leadership will last, and the social networking landscape is constantly evolving. As noted below, Instagram is taking off (nearly a third of U.S. marketers used the site in 2015, and that figure is expected to approach 70% by 2017) while Google+ is struggling (though it has 300 million active monthly users worldwide, less than 6 million made any public posts in 2015).

Here are three more key takeaways from the more than four dozen social networking facts and statistics below:
Facebook is the most popular social network on the planet—except with CEOs. An incredible 71% of all Internet users are on Facebook, including more than half of all online adults aged 65 and older. In addition, 96% of all B2C and 88% of B2B companies use Facebook for marketing. Yet within the 50 largest global companies, not one CEO is active on Facebook.
Small business loves Facebook, though most don’t know if it “works.” 93% of small business owners and marketers use Facebook, and 92% agree that social media is important for their businesses. Yet most say “they don’t know whether their Facebook outreach is ‘working.’” And just one in three “characterize Facebook efforts as ‘effective.’”
LinkedIn is tops for B2B marketing, but…not for advertising? 41% of B2B marketers say LinkedIn is the most important social network they use, and 81% say they use it to help launch new products. That’s likely because 74% B2B decision makers use LinkedIn to help make purchasing decisions. Yet just 18% of B2B SMB marketers are using LinkedIn ads (while 75% run ads on Facebook).
